1400 Hours - October 5th, 2003
The Hyperion's crew was back on duty in name but not really in fact. The ship would not be leaving its dock over Aerilon until tomorrow. That meant the air wing was not flying CAPs, engineering was running only auxiliary power, the CIC was not actively managing the ship and observing the surrounding area of space. In short, the vessel was still very much "asleep" as it had been the past month with just a skeleton crew aboard. Only the support departments were really working at normal levels, the quartermaster actually being busier than normal with a flurry of requests and new transfers.
Other than support though, everyone else had nothing to do save for settling in and doing what training they could while still "tied up to the pier". Roger was included in that group. Currently he was busying himself with his plans for the war games. At the moment that meant re-reading the rulebook to make sure that what he had planned was perfectly legal.
It was at that moment, halfway through chapter 4 section 23 that he heard the knock on the door of his office followed by a voice... Chris. Rather than call the man in, Roger decided to go to him. He placed the book down with a sigh and proceeded to the door. On the other side was Captain Wilson. "Coming to me with a lead on who vandalized the White Tiger's squadron sign, or is it something else?" he asked.

Chris had met up with Kim at the shipyard to pick up the boys. The two of them had set up for the surprise of them showing up to see Roger for the day. Kim of course had planned to meet up with Roger a bit later but Chris had talked her in to allowing him to take the boys on the ship to see Roger and spend a little time with "Uncle Chris" first. As soon as Chris met up with them and been tackled by them they were off to his room to get ready.
Chris had ordered custom marine uniforms to match their sizes and the three of them changed and got ready to head off and see their father. Before hand of course they met up with a few of Chris' squad. Tatiana, Tyler and the new guy Samuel were all there to meet them. It was a whole different side of Chris they all got to see with him around the boys, it was almost as if they were his own kids. In Chris' mind they were the closest thing he would ever have to his own kids. Chris kneeled down and pinned on each and every uniform rank insignia for them each. Horatio of course matched rank with Chris as Captain. Alexander wore the rank of Lieutenant and little James as Ensign. "Welcome to the Colonial Marine Corp boys." He said with a smile and a salute. The group of boys saluted back, than Chris picked up James and slung him up on to his shoulders. "First things first we need to report to the Major."
It was likely that Kim would not approve of him suiting them up like soldiers but Roger would likely get a kick out of it. The three of them were more then enjoying themselves at it all. They walked down the hall, Chris making a parade of it the whole way as he called out for people to make a hole for the "group of officers" passing through. Finally arriving at the door of the boy's fathers room. Chris and Horatio knocked on the door to signal to him they were there. "Captain Wilson reporting Sir." Far more formal then Chris was normally with the senior officer. The four of them stood there as they waited for him to answer. Chris looked down to Horatio and Alexander and with a quiet and playful voice. "Now remember we are to apprehend the Major as soon as he opens the door. Assault through." Both of the boys nodded and smiled now standing only a few inches from the door ready to make their move.
As soon as the door opened the two of them rushed in and James pointed his little red cap gun Chris had gotten him in the direction of the major and with a series of trigger squeezes a loud 'pop, pop, pop,' followed. "Major Davis, I believe Captain Davis here is to relieve you of duty for the next few hours." Chris picked James up off his shoulders and set him on the ground in front of him so he could move forward and cling to his father as well.

He was absolutely not expecting what came through that door. For any other man that wouldn't have been a huge deal, even a welcome surprise, but Roger was no ordinary man. The door opened and in rushed several people, at least one armed with a pistol that was being fired. The major's reaction thus was to defend himself against the unexpected attack. Fortunately his mind managed to process the height and then faces of his attackers before his instincts and training had his pistol unholstered.
Rather than a trigger-happy marine gunning down his own kids, Roger managed to seamlessly play it off. He went to his gun and then feigned being shot by his youngest. He then went down to the ground as if truly knocked over as his other two tackled him. The typically stern major was suddenly all smiles and soon began to laugh with his boys.
It seemed Chris had really outdone himself this time. Not only had he gotten the boys on board for a surprise but he'd gone a step further. The boys loved him because he was fun and he spoiled them as if he were flesh and blood. True to that he'd managed to get them child-sized uniforms complete with patches and rank pins and they weren't just cheap knock-offs like you'd find in a seasonal costume shop.
"Captain" he looked around at the boys and discovered the appropriate rank pin on Horatio, his oldest. "Well, I was just in the middle of some paperwork if you'd care to take over." Horatio was a good student but what Roger had been working on wasn't exactly at a second grade level. "Or if maybe that sounds too much like homework I could find Lieutenant Frost and you officers could come with me for something more fun."
The other two were of course quick with their answer of "fun" but Horatio took a moment in coming to the decision. He had been pondering whether he should accept both the challenge of the paperwork as well as the chore as his "duty" despite his personal preferences. It was only after a small and proud smile from Roger that the young boy realized his father had not been serious.
"So," Roger began, now speaking to Chris. "What strings did you have to pull to get these boys commissioned at such a young age?" He ruffed Alex's hair and then picked up little James as he asked. "More importantly, what did the boss have to say?"
"Mom." Horatio said quickly thereafter, answering the question of who "the boss" was.
