This is a list of recognition awards which may be earned through either valor in combat or service to the Colonies. They are given for IC actions rather than OOC activities. Thus they are attached to the character, not the player. All of these awards are actually earned IC and may be added into RP either in casual conversation or in award ceremonies and the like.
This list is grounded in cannon BSG awards with US military awards filling out the remainder (the BSG awards we have being modeled on it).
Combat Valor
Medal of Valor - Equivalent to the Medal of Honor, it is the highest recognition for selfless valor in a combat setting. Socrata Thrace, Starbuck's mother, earned this award.
Star of the Colonies First Order - Equivalent to the Distinguished Service Cross for combat valor.
Star of the Colonies Second Order - Equivalent to the Silver Star for combat valor.
Medal of Distinguished Aerial Flight - Equivalent to the Distinguished Flying Cross for valor of aerial roles.
Star of the Colonies Third Order - Equivalent to the Bronze Start for combat valor.
Purple Heart - Awarded for wounds received in a combat zone.
Medal of Commendation - For acts of valor that do not qualify for higher recognition but have gone beyond the call of duty.
Distinguished Service
Star of Kobol - The highest honor that can ever be given, it is a recognition of incredible service to the Colonies. This award had not been given for over a thousand years when Adama received it in the 1978 BSG series.
Medal of Distinction - An award recognizing long term service and dedication to the colonies. Adama receives this award in the Re-imagined series after the fall of New Caprica.
Medal of Superior Colonial Service - An award that may recognize either a lifetime of service or brief but exemplary service in a non-combat role.
Legion of Merit - A recognition often given to civilians for their actions either in combat or noncombat service.
Medal of Colonial Service - For service not qualifying for the Superior Service medal.
Medal of Meritorious Service - An award given both to civilian and military personnel for service to the Colonies.
Medal of Achievement - A minor award recognizing noncombat actions which have gone beyond the call of duty to the Colonies.
