Abbreviations, Acronyms and Initialisms

AAU: Anti-aircraft unit. Weapons emplacement used to destroy aerial targets, typically point defense cannons.
ACM: Air combat maneuver. The positioning of a plane to acquire a firing solution on an adversary; a required skill taught to Viper pilots during flight training.
AE: After Exodus is the dating convention in the BSG series to keep track of time. It is equivalent to “AD” with year 0 being when the Tribes left Kobol.

The CNP was not a virus but merely a backdoor infiltration method. When it wasn’t being used to lock systems, the CNP increased effectiveness by aiding small craft in their navigation, targeting, and generally all avionics related systems. It aided larger command vessels by better tracking and coordinating those smaller vessels.
DC: Damage Control, generally related to the CIC station and related sub-station locations across the ship.
DCT: Damage Control Team; typically consisting of deckhands and other NCOs along with members found in the Engineering department.
DRADIS: "Direction, Range, and Distance". Colonial equivalent of radar.
ECO: Electronic Countermeasures Officer, typically in reference to the second crew member of a Raptor.
EMI: Electromagnetic interference. High-energy electromagnetic radiation from binary stars is known to interfere with DRADIS.
EMP: Electromagnetic pulse. A powerful electrically-disruptive surge that typically accompanies a nuclear detonation. EMP can disorient, disable, or completely destroy electronic systems.
FTL: Faster Than Light. A descriptive term referring to technologies that enable travel across distances faster than the speed of light would permit. Such travel is near instantaneous and is called a “jump”.
