Personality
Likes:
- Reading: Pacifica spends a lot of her free time reading. When she was a kid she used to read to her younger sister and it always brings back good memories for her.
- Vipers and Raptors: She is a deck hand this is to be expected but she can’t help but find herself interested in trying to figure out every detail of how these ships work internally.
- Silence: Pacifica is not always the quiet type but she enjoys when things are calm and quiet and she is able to have a moment of silence to reflect on things.
- Wild open space: Pacifica loves the outdoors and open areas, hints the being a deckhand the most open place on a ship is the deck itself.
- Family: This might be beyond a like and more a love she is dedicated to her family and taking care of them in any way she can especially her little sister.
Dislikes:
- Unfaithfulness: Those who are unfaithful in their lives be it a promise made to someone or in a relationship it is one of her biggest pet peeves.
- Overbearing people: Her parents gave her and her sister many freedoms as children and she had grown accustom to having those freedoms, though the military is a more disciplined environment she still takes issue with people who are overbearing or micromanaging.
- Drinking: Pacifica has never been one to drink.... at all... she hates it. In fact she has never actually had a single drink in her life and she believes it has ruined too many lives in and out of the military. It would take one Hades of a situation for her to decide to start now.
- Sagittarons: She lost vision in her right eye because of the ‘terrorist separatists’ from Sagittaron and she holds a grudge against all of them, to her own shame she is unable to give up the grudge.
- FNosey people: She dislikes it when people stick their nose into other peoples business. This dislike may root itself in the fact that when on a rare occasion someone realizes they she lost her vision in her right eye they always feel the need to ask what happened.
Fears:
- Losing her family. She is so connected to her family that she could not stand the thought of losing them.
- Being discharged from the service. The service is her life and she intends to make a career of it the thought of losing that now at the age of thirty scares her.
Strengths:
- Mechanical intuition: She has a knack for knowing what is going on with the Vipers and Raptors she is working on. It is almost as if she can talk to them. Though that would be impossible.
- Dedication: Pacifica is dedicated above all else. If she is given an impossible task she will work on it anyway almost to a fault. If there is any possible way to resolve it she will keep trying till she gets it.
- Trivial knowledge: Pacifica is a wealth of knowledge on many subjects including history. With all her reading she has done in her spare time she has come to be known as a walking fact book storing little tidbits about everything she reads, so they can be recalled later and put to use.
Weaknesses:
- Vision: She is blind in one eye and her ability to perceive things is limited due to this. It has more than once caused trouble for her or even ended with her having a few bumps bruises and scars from it on the flight deck.
- Fear: Pacifica is a tough person but in the thick of combat she feels nearly overwhelmed by combat. Luckily for her she is in a job that does not require her to use a gun or do the actual fighting.
- Flying: Pacifica may enjoy working on the Vipers and Raptors but ask her to get on one of them and fly around outside of the comfort of her giant ship and she is a wreck. Sure she can survive to make it to the ground on a Raptor but she will do her best to avoid this task every chance she gets.
Aspirations: Pacifica has many hopes and aspirations in her life but the one that stands above all else is to find someone she loves and who loves her. Settle down and start her own family.
General Personality: Pacifica is a modest simple person. She never embellished stories when she is repeating them to others and is always honest about everything with everyone. She is proud of who she is and would not change a thing about herself. She is dedicated to her duties and headstrong about finishing any task set before her.
She is kind and sweet and sometimes is looked at as quiet though that is only because she can be focused and doesn’t waste time talking when she doesn’t have to. When she is off duty though she is a talker, very friendly and good natured. She would never turn her back on anyone even those she would consider her enemy if they were in need of help. That said Pacifica is not the type to have enemies.

Retirement Ceremony for Master Chief Petty Officer Pacifica (Last name to be disclosed at some later point)
The interview is with her children just before the ceremony begins. The children are as follows:
Child 1: 28 Lieutenant (LSO)
Child 2: 26 Ensign (Viper Pilot)
Child 3: 25 Warrant Officer (Comms Specialist)
Child 4: 22 Private First Class (Marine)
Child 5: 21 Specialist (Deckhand)
Child 6: 18 Civilian
------------------------
Reporter: “We have all heard the story about the Master Chief and what she did for the survivors of the attack, but what is she like in the home life.”
Child 1: “We could talk on this subject all day.”
Child 2: He laughs. “Yeah she is quite the character. Couldn’t have asked for a better mother though. I have no idea how she put up with this little herd of children but here we are.” He laughed again along with the others.
Child 6: She stepped out in front of the others so she could be heard. “Mom is great. She is so patient with us though she can be tough with certain things. She is a hard ass when it comes to education.” She was interrupted before she could finish what she was saying.
Child 3:”Hard ass doesn’t cover it. I got a C in an electronics class in high school and her and Dad tore me apart for it. I spent the whole summer grounded for it and...” She too was cut off by the second oldest clearing his throat loudly.
Reporter: The reporter looked to the youngest of the family. “The word is that we should be expecting to see you ship off to basic here soon, is that true?”
Child 6:”Well, yeah, mom is a traditionalist and just like her dad joined before her we have a family tradition of doing the same here. She is very traditional about that kind of thing and proud of her time in the service. We all feel it is the best way for us all to honor her and do our part.”
Reporter:”Can you all give me a brief statement to describe your mother?”
All the kids at once: “Dedicated.”
Child 2: He smiled at all of them saying the same thing. “I guess I will start, when she sets her mind to something there is no stopping her. I remember when I was just a kid she would always talk about how one day she would run the deck of a ship. I think at this point she surpassed that goal. She has run nearly every deck in the new Colonial Fleet at one point or another.”
Child 5:”I guess that means I should touch on something else. She is caring, I have heard the stories and she would put her life on the line to protect anyone military or civilian. Always putting others first.”
Child 4: “Modest, just because she is a Master Chief she doesn’t look at herself as bigger, better or more important than anyone else.
Child 3: “Oh gosh, I am not even sure where to start. She is.. I don’t know just amazing. I just hope someday I can be as good of a person as she is.
Child 1: “Dedicated, in every aspect of her life. I am not sure she knows the meaning of failure.”
Reporter:The reporter turns to the oldest. “Lieutenant, you have actually had the chance to serve on board a ship with her. What was that like?”
Child 1: “Intimidating, That goes for all the people who were there on the Hyperion during the Second Cylon War. I learned a lot from her, she was always willing to teach people everything she knew, including myself. She also never took any flak from the pilots. There was no question, no matter the rank that it was her deck.
Reporter: “Is there anything else you would like to say about her for our viewers?”
Child 5: “Everyone out there is lucky to have her on their side. For a war hero she is quite humble and a great person to get to know if you ever get the chance. She has quite the story to tell.” The rest of the kids nod in agreement.
The Backstory
History: Pacifica clumsily sat down in her old chair with the five little children crowding around her, yipping and waiting for her to tell the tale she had promised them since they had all showed up at her home four days ago. Pacifica put on her glasses and squinted at the children to get them into focus in her old age, then smiled.
"Settle down, settle down. I will get started." Pacifica said as she pulled herself up into a more comfortable position. Every move had gotten harder in her old age.
"Horray." bellowed the cluster of young children.
"I guess I should start from the beginning, what my ma' had always told me about the beginning at least. She would always say that her and my pappy had gone out to see a movie that day. Pappi would always say it was one of those horrible love stories that the guys always get pulled in to watch even when they don't want to." Pacifica smiled again as she thought about it.
"When they left it was foggy out and pappy was barely able to drive home. Well before they got home something happened. Ma was going into labor and they had to head for the hospital. It wasn't a long drive, maybe twenty minutes, but when you are in labor twenty minutes seems like a long time." She reached into her pocket and pulled out a small slip of photos and began to flip through them as she spoke. "Well five hours after they made it there, a healthy little baby girl was born. That's when grammy was born. Here is a picture of me when I was born with Pappy and Ma." She handed the picture down to the kids to take in and see.
The children jockeyed with each other to get a good position to view it as Pacifica waited for them to all get a good look. When they settled back down she continued her story. “Can’t say I really remember much of my childhood when I was really young, but Pappy always said I was a perfect little angel.” She let out a light rough laugh. “Never did buy that story, but I won’t fight it.”
Pacifica grabbed the picture back from the kids and looked at it herself with a smile. There was a part of her that missed the way things were back then before everything changed, but what could she do. “I do remember though when I was only as old as you Tori.” Tori was the oldest of her grandchildren at nine years old now. “I was out on the old farm back on Scorpia. I was watching my little sister Attica. I have told you about your great aunt Attica haven’t I?” She asked of the kids.
“Yes.” They bellowed to her. They had all heard the story of their great aunt and how she was a hero during the old days. They all loved the story but the story that she was telling them tonight was one she had never told them all of before, her story.
“What was I saying again?” She thought as she looked at the kids. “Oh right, Attica was only two and I was watching her. I took her out on the back balcony with me while my Ma was busy making dinner, and pappy wasn’t home yet. She just kept crying and I kept trying to find a way to stop her. After trying everything I jumped up on the rail and just sat there with no clue what to do.”
She paused a moment and smiled. “To my surprise it actually stopped almost as if she was in awe of me being up on the rail. I guess Ma had always told her to not get near the edge of the balcony even at that. Me being the intelligent big sister decide that I should climb up on the rail and dance around on it. Grammy had good balance back then not like today. Well Attica was all laughs and sunshine then.” Pacifica twirled her hands around to mock as if she was dancing there on the rail right then in front of them. All the kids were smiles at the thought of the now eighty one year old dancing.
“Then, crack! The old rail broke and it hit me, the reason she had kept Attica back from the rail is it was old and rotting. The next thing I remembered was being at the same hospital both me and Attica were born at. I had broke my leg and six of my ribs in the fall. That's why your father telsl you not to climb those trees, Tori.” She gave her a playfully scolding look. “I learned my lesson that day, and I never climbed anything higher than the top of a Viper after that day.”
Her hand went to her left upper arm and rubbed it, you get sore all the time in your old age after all. “The years passed by and me and Attica grew closer with every passing day. Attica became more adventurous as the years passed and your dear old grammy found herself growing more and more afraid to take risks. Eventually it seemed like I was spending all my time keeping her from doing things that would get her hurt. There comes a time though that one must decide what they want to do in their lives and when I was seventeen I followed in Pappy’s footsteps and with both Ma and Pappy’s consent I enlisted in the Colonial Navy.”
Pacifica's hand tapped around on the little end table till she found a paper on it, the papers were heh certificate of completion from basic training. After taking a moment to look at it herself she handed it off to them. “That was sixty three years ago that I finished training. Long before any of us knew what was coming. I finished basic training only a few months after I turned eighteen. Didn’t even finish high school before I left for basic. Every one of you will finish school before you do anything like that, you understand. Back then there were lots of ships in the Colonial Fleet, not like today. My first ship I was sent to was the Patrolstar Achilles. It seemed so big and grand back then but it was nothing compared to where I would end up but I’ll get to that part later. That was back in 1991, long long ago.”
The kids giggled a little at the mention of the year. “That was like a hundred years ago.” One of the younger kids said and they all laughed even more.
“Not quite but it is getting close to that now isn’t it” She replied back to the young boy. “Back then there wasn’t too much going on but it gave me a great time to learn everything I could about the Colonial Navy, namely the Raptors and Vipers. It was three years later I was transferred to another of the ships of old, the Battlestar Triton. That was just before the Sagittaron Uprising began. The Triton was sent there to join in dealing with the situation along with a handful of other ships. Many more than we see in the Fleet today actually.”
“The first couple of months we were really busy keeping all the Vipers and Raptors ready and fighting the Sagittaron fighters. The battle was really one sided though and there was no doubt that we were going to win it. Finally they sent some of us down to the ground where there was an airfield that we had. We were tasked to do the work there to keep the Vipers from having to head back up to the ships to reload.” All the kids were completely silent by this point, completely enthralled with the story they were being told. the two boys more than ever now. “One day just before the end of the war one of the Raptors went down with engine trouble and me and three others were sent out to go help it with a small group of marines with us. I had just been promoted to Petty Officer Second Class a week or so before that so I was somehow the senior of the mission.” She laughed a little at the thought of how incapable of taking charge she really was at the time. She was lucky that the marines had someone of equal rank there as well to really lead things.
“We never did make it there to the Raptor. No, before we could get that far there was an explosion that hit our vehicle and damaged it pretty bad, along with your grammy being pretty badly hurt then.” She didn’t feel the need to tell them that she was the only one of the four in the vehicle that survived. “That was the second time in my life I woke up in the hospital and not sure how I got there. I had a lot of scratches and scrapes along with having lost the ability to see out of my right eye.” her fingers ran down her cheek. Six little scars were on her face much more prominent in her old age now than they were back than after they had healed. All of them were from shrapnel that had pierced through her face, one of them severing the optic nerve to her right eye. Though medicine was advanced, there was still only so much one could do for that kind of damage and resorting her vision was not possible.
“I spent about five weeks recovering and then I was given medical discharge papers. I had given them four years of my life and the second something went wrong they were ready to get rid of me but I wasn’t going to go without a fight. I spent the next four months on Picon fighting the discharge till they finally caved and allowed me to return to duty. At that point in early 1996 I was placed on the Battlestar Jupiter. The Jupiter was sort of a eventless part of my time in the service. Three years and nothing happened. Eventually I got bored there and finally got a transfer off there to the Battlestar Uned.”
She paused what she was saying when a middle aged man in a Colonial uniform walked in bearing the rank of Senior Chief on his collar. It was her youngest son now around the age of 41. “Finally telling the story huh, Master Chief?” He said to her as he too joined the kids on the ground in front of her. Tori climbed up onto his lap and snuggled in.
“Figured it was about time I pass the story along. History is best not forgotten.” she told him as she grabbed her glass of water and took the last sip from it. “The Uned was my least favorite post really, but I did get up to Petty Officer First Class there, so I guess I did alright in making rank with it. We would spend a bit of time around Tauron while I was with that ship but I never did see much happen then. That time I was smart enough to stay on the ship where it was safe. When the beginning of 2003 came around I was transferred off there. I had heard of the new ship and I am sure you all know what one I am talking about. I know I have told you all how big the Hyperion is but there is no way to explain it. Tori, your father will have to take you all up to see it someday. She is scheduled for retirement here in the next year. Maybe he will be able to get something set up when that time comes for you all to go see it.” Her youngest son was the Chief of the Deck on the Hyperion after all.
“Those first few months on the Hyperion were interesting, It was a few months after me that Attica was transferred on there with me. She had joined up as a marine when she was nineteen so it was only her second post and the two of us spent all our free time together.” She picked up her glass that was now empty and looked at it. ‘Would you mind getting your dear old mom a glass of water. As for all of you go get grampy and make sure he isn’t falling asleep in his chair again. When I get a bit more water I will finish the story of what happened to the Hyperion and how we all ended up where we are today.” Pacifica rubbed her left arm again it was hurting badly now. She had to finish the story before the night was over.
